The Iranian artist Parastou Forouhar presents an in-situ installation “BodyLetter” on the 400 square meter floor of Toledo’s 12th century university courtyard LA MANCHA.

“Body Letter” presents visual poetry without signification, an écriture automatique, an ephemeral way of writing the void, invoking dream texts, Persian poetry, the freedom of letters beyond grammar, exhibited inside one of the oldest universities of Europe.

Within this unique architectural scene, dancer and performance artist Ziya Azazi (Istanbul/Vienna) presents new variation of his choreography “Dervish in Progress.” Ziya Azazi’s choreography explores contemporary variations of the traditional Sufi whirling movement.

Ziya Azazi’s dance and the iconic writings of Parastou Forouhar both explore the freedom of poetry, celebrating the freedom of letters and bodies from all occupying restrictions and violence.

Parastou Forouhar is born in Teheran, and lives and works in Offenbach, near Frankfurt a.M. With Toledo’s “Body Letter,” Parastou Forouhar continues the series of her “Written Rooms and “Body Letters” which she exhibited in Istanbul, Berlin, Brisbane, and other outstanding international venues.

Ziya Azazi is a dancer, choreographer, and performance artist whose dance performances are celebrated worldwide. His repertoire includes a contemporary interpretation of the classical Sufi dance, often in collaboration with contemporary composers and other performance artists. Ziya Azazi lives in Istanbul and Vienna.
