Address: Schillerstraße 15, Berlin-Charlottenburg
“Lady Dada Kalam” is an in situ exhibition in Berlin 2017 curated by five female alumni crossculture ifa / taswir fellows: Huma Sherzai (Kabul), Friederike Ruff (Berlin), Huda Al Janabi (Baghdad), Molka Haj Salem (Tunis), Razan Nassreddine (Damaskus/Berlin) in collaboration with Taswir projects / Shulamit Bruckstein.
The Taswir Institute convenes the fellows for a preparatory workshop in Berlin, in order to prepare the exhibition.
The exhibition 2017 is a performative pretext for a public reunion of Taswir Ladies’ crossculture alumni fellows who spent their ifa fellowships at Taswir projects in Berlin in 2014-2016. The reunion takes on the form of an exhibition / bazaar in which the fellows from Kabul, Damascus, Berlin, Baghdad, and Tunis together with Taswir projects act as curators, performers, merchants, artists, and public advisors.
The setting of the exhibition presents the psychodelic scene of a market overflowing with objects, exuberantly baroque in its horror vacui, its entire space filled with artistic works, jewelry, carpets, textiles, merchandise and other stuff, from trash to exquisitely precious art works. The taswir crossculture fellows position themselves inside the Dada Kalam market, welcoming visitors in booths of merchandise, sitting at small baroque tables selling jewelry, textiles, trash, art, and other stuff from the booths, also receiving guests in a setting of 1 + 1, welcoming visitors to an intimate discussion and exchange of political ideas, trading political and psychological advice on the situation in the “Middle East”, in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and more.
The Lady Dada Kalam Bazar developes an institutional format which presents contemporary art works, handcraft, discourse, music, and political discussion. We create an art work / contemporary collage that assumes the nature of a back stage for direct international diplomacy, veiled and hidden by the work.
Participants in the exhibition “Lady Dada Kalam” are Huma Sherzai (Kabul), crossculture fellow 2016 at Taswir in Berlin and current ifa representative in Kabul (Antragsstellerin); Friederike Ruff (Berlin), crossculture fellow 2015 at Ashkal Alwan in Beirut; Huda Al Janabi (Bagdad), crossculture fellow 2016 at Taswir in Berlin; Molka Haj Salem (Tunis), taswir Goethe fellow 2015 at Taswir in Berlin; Razan Nassreddine (Damascus/Berlin), taswir DAAD fellow 2013 at Taswir in Berlin and Shulamit Bruckstein, the taswir institute.
