BM Contemporary 2nd edition
Cosmopolis Unbent. Homage to Beral Madra
Digital Cartography Designed by House of Taswir
CULTURAL ACADEMY TARABYA, JULY 6, 2019
This is the Istanbul premiere of BM Contemporary, digital cartography, showing fragments from the archive of Istanbul curator, writer, and art critic Beral Madra. BM Contemporary’s current edition Cosmopolis Unbent is presented in the Ottoman Teahouse on the premises of the German ambassador’s summer residency in Tarabya as a digital atlas combined with an artistic mural installation.
Cosmopolis Unbent is a diplomatic art project. Its aim is to develop a documentation of more than four decades of exhibition making by the formative Istanbul curator Beral Madra.
The current edition at the Cultural Academy Tarabya employs digital and analogue architectural strategies. It shows dynamic and variable relations between hundreds of fragments, texts, art works, names of artists, and places of contemporary artistic research in the entire region. All materials shown are cited from the Beral Madra Contemporary Art Center (BM CAC) Archive.
Cosmopolis Unbent is a subjectively curated anthology of artistic research, dedicated to a towering cosmopolitan figure, a diplomat in her own rights in the field of contemporary art. With our documentary work we stand at the very beginning.
