Gülcin Aksoy Studio is proud to host graphic designer and typographer Verena (Berlin) for an open studio talk in her Mimar Sinan Tapestry Studio.

Verena Gerlach shares her experience of working with underprivileged women of minority groups in South India on silk embroidery and typography [lettering], art forms which in South India are usually reserved for men.

Gerlach’s work with the young women from Bangladore and the silk city of Ramaragara explored traditional techniques of embroidery and connected these to modern types of lettering and street art. The women’s work resulted in a contemporary exhibition of silk scarfs and other textiles in the Goethe Institute of Bangladore in the year 2014.

VERENA GERLACH is a graphic designer, typedesigner and typographer with her studio in Berlin. Since 2006, she has been working as a freelance book designer for art book publishers like Hatje Cantz and Kerber Verlag, a.o. Verena Gerlach gives lectures and workshops in type design and typography all over the globe.
