“I managed to write the venture of Yusuf starting from 1864 until the 1940s. But even if you set off from a certain point, you keep encountering other people all your life. And in a way, you become their fellow – to share with them their past as well. Then you go on with some other pasts, and at the end, all this accumulation turns into a multitude of belongings.”
